"Giving hope to life, wherever it begins: Incubators for Kigoma, Tanzania."
Technology helps in healthcare advances and many lives can be saved. But it can be expensive. And, therefore, far beyond the economic possibilities of developing countries.
Faced with this reality, a group of engineers and doctors decided to get down to work and develop an accessible, open source, low-cost neonatal incubator. Ghana, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Cape Verde and Cameroon are some of the more than 10 countries where they already have In-cube-ator models and which KARIBIA has now brought to Tanzania thanks to the collaboration of the NGDO Persona Solidaridad.
The aim of the project is to provide a technology that gives hope to life, wherever it begins. Convinced that the place of birth should not condition the chances of a newborn to succeed.
The In-cube-ator is designed to be easy to install, assemble, use, maintain and repair, so that those who have it are autonomous in its use. Among its functionalities, it offers temperature and humidity control and regulation, tilt, ventilation and jaundice treatment by phototherapy.
So far, we have delivered 3 units to the local health authorities, which have been assigned to the hospitals of Gungu, Ujiji and Buhanda, and we have carried out several training sessions for the health personnel of the 3 hospitals on their use and maintenance, as well as supervision and follow-up visits.
